PostSubject: Hissing noise from speaker   Sun Jun 12, 2011 11:34 am

I have my American standard strat connected to my ht5r combo and I am getting a hissing sound from the speaker. It gets worse when I turn up the gain on the overdrive channel. This noise was not there before.

I don't have that on my Fender princeton amp so not sure whether the HT5R is faulty.

Anyone know whether this sound is normal or whether I should take the amp back?

Thanks
Mick

Are you playing through single coil pickups? Do you have any other guitars that you can test with, humbucker equipped, etc?

I only have the single coil strat and changing lead didn't do anything.

The noise it's making is more like white noise that an untuned tv set makes.

I'm wondering whether the LCD tv that I put in the room is causing interference with the amp

An LCD shouldn't be causing problems, but you never know.

Try other power points in your house, you may be in a circuit that is shared by your refrigerator, or some other noisy appliance. I've had that problem in the past.

Hey,

I have the exact same problem. Tried with strat and LP so not the p'ups. Bought a 'mains cleaning' power strip but still got the hissing....
Probably have to take it to the place I bought it and see what they think, but would be good if someone had any other suggestions first.

I took mine to the shop where I bought it and the guy said it is normal for a high gain amp. He then hooked up a mesa boogie and it was hissing noise was louder than the HT5R.

I haven't been able to find another shop that has a HT5R in stock to compare it. Before taking it back to the shop, try different HT-5R in another shop and see if it does the same noise. If it does, take it back. That is what I am planning to do.
