I was wondering if this amp can be used at a low volume and still have a good sound. I am looking for a metalcore type gain. It seems like most tube amps dont sound very good until you get the volume up. By low volume I mean like a normal tv volume or slightly louder.

They definitely sound great at low or high volumes. Remember too that you can plug your headphones in to this amp and listen through those if you really need to keep things quiet. Wink

well i had to return the HT-5 because it didn't have a master volume and i realized to get the heavy metal tone i needed i had to crank both gain and volume on the OD channel which was unbearable at home Mad however, i got the stage 60 for its versatility and master volume BUT i miss the dynamics of saturated power tubes i use to get from the HT-5, truly missing that ( I may buy it again). You can check out the HT studio 20 or use an eq in the loop to reduce the output of the preamp Laughing but you might hear a better opinion than mine...ENJOY

Sorry, you couldn't get enough gain for metal from it at low volumes? You must be after some ridiculously over the top buzz saw gain if the HT-5 didn't have enough at low volumes. You could have just bought an overdrive pedal you know. Wink

I've found the HT-5 has plenty of gain for metal if you have the right sort of high output pickups. For guitars that haven't had that I just hit an OD pedal.

Probably it was a hasty decision, or it was psychological since i got the HT-5 as a temporary solution until the 60 arrives. Anywhoo, no regrets and i might end up buying the HT-5 head in the future...hoping for a refresh this NAMM bounce
