| I am interested in learning this
i love the HT Stage 60 so far, but is it easy to change all 5 tubes? or are some in need of re biasing? if so which ones and how do you do that?
also what speakers from celestian come with this amp? and has anyone ever put 2 different celestians in an amp to combine for a new sound?
i was thinking the Celestian LEAD and the Celestain Vintage 30?
but with tubes and speakers i am a total noob. but owuld like to learn
thanks for any help on this particular amp
tim
- and is there anything else that might be changed?

| The stock speakers are Celestion Seventy 80s. An okay speaker, in my opinion. I'm not anti Celestion or anything but take a good look at some great alternatives such as WGS, Eminence, etc.
As far as tubes you'll find a wealth of info on these forums. These dudes here and their helpful info is what made me pick the tubes I did and I couldn't be happier. |

| The Pre amp tubes can all be changed easily enough, there are 2 Ecc83s and 1 Ecc82 - they just need wiggeling out and replacement s slotting in- nothing else needed. A change of the stock tubes should give much better reliability. Many here use JJs , I use Tungsol and Electroharmonix preamp tubes
The 2 much larger tubes are the power tubes (EL34s) and will need biasing - u will need a tech to do as u clearly know nothing about valve amps and they can be dangerous.
It is fairly common in a 2 x12 to fit different speakers...some come from the maufacturer like this but usually it is 2 of the same speaker
You say u love the Amp so why do u want to know if anything else can be changed? If you were happy with it u would nt want to change anything. |

| He might feel like I did. I loved the amp from the get go but I knew I could improve. So far, I've just replaced preamp tubes (Tungsol 12AX7 and a JAN Phillips 5751) and it's like I've unleashed a beast in this thing. Still going to do the power tubes and speaker (HT-40). |

| that's the best part of these amps, configuring it to your taste, if you're a total tone meister like alot of us are--then again, alot of us like it the way it is ,too!!! |

| sorry to not jump back in here quickly
i have ordered 2 Celestion Vintage 30, 60 watt, 16 OHM speakers.
i am going to swap these in first, to learn and i like the sound of them from what i have heard.
i looked at the speakers in the amp last night and tried to wiggle the cables off them but they sure seemed stuck on there tight. is there a tool or a best way to do this speaker swap? i didnt pull real hard as i dont want to break anything
thanks much |

| The speaker wire connector is just a push on fit to the speaker lug so a bit of 'wiggling' should release them
Let me know how the V30s sound when they are broken in ...These would be my first choice in a speaker swap having used them (and them sounding good) in my Orange Amp for a number of years although at present still using the 70/80s in my Blackstar .....and kind of liking them

| just take some small needle nose pliers and grab the base of the connector and gently wiggle it - it'll come right off |

| those should be the leads leading to the speaker cable that plugs into the back of the amp
be sure and keep your polarity correct when you plud the new ones up ( + and -) |

| Record down the current wiring in some sort of schematic. Believe me will help.
The Vintage 30's are awesome speakers. You will enjoy.

| not sure how to post pics
but i swapped in the vintage 30's 16 ohm, 60 watt (G12). much better sound, its deeper with a nicer growl. noticed RIGHT off the bat, not even broken in yet. the whole process from taking out the first screw to putting it back in took about 30 minutes for me and was VERY simple. if i can do it anyone can
so not off to swap some tubes and learn more about this amp and what can be swapped, not that i will, just want to learn.
thanks! |
